As the sun sets over Fortescue Falls, the only permanent waterfall in Karijini, the colours of the iron-rich rocks slowly change from bright red to a rusty orange hue. The contrast with the lush evergreen vegetation such as stiff leaf sedge (Cyperus vaginatus), white fig (Ficus virens) and ladder brake (Pteris vittata) couldn’t be much bigger.

I love the step look of these falls as well as the colors.

The steps are very inviting to climb, Janet, although the continuous running water makes it slippery and therefore potentially dangerous. The exit of gorge leads on the very same kind of steps at the side of falls, and it is amazing how quickly one climbs out.
Wow! That’s gorgeous!
Thanks Terry, it’s a lovely place. Sometimes it can get a bit crowdy, but early mornings or evenings it’s the most lovely spot.

Beautiful natural staircase!
Aren’t they? Always fascinating how nature creates colours, shapes and textures!
